The bottled Rattler press release...
CORNISH RATTLER IN BOTTLES LAUNCHED TO TARGET NEW GENERATION OF CYDER DRINKERS
A new Cornish Cloudy Cyder designed to tickle the taste buds of a new generation of cyder drinkers and created by two dynamic brothers from a new generation of cyder makers, has been launched in bottles following the runaway success of the drink in pubs throughout Cornwall.
Cornish Rattler is the product of four years of development by Joe and Sam Healey of the Cornish Cyder Farm at Penhallow near Truro . The brothers have grown up around the business, which is owned by their father, and the pair decided to put their family’s knowledge of Cyder production to good use by creating a new type of Cyder to rival lagers, alcopops and more traditional ciders drunk by the younger generation.
Launched in Easter 2004 in draft format and sold in more than 120 pubs throughout the St Austell Brewery chain, Cornish Rattler, is a cloudy sparkling cyder with a clean and fruity taste, providing a refreshing apple burst. At 6% ABV Cornish Rattler has quite a bite for such a deliciously drinkable cider and sales of Cornish Rattler have increased 264% in the last year alone, prompting the roll-out of the bottled version.
Cornish Rattler gets its name from an old fashioned variety of Cornish apples which are used as part of the blend of apples grown and pressed at the Cornish Cyder Farm’s orchards at Penhallow near Truro . Committed to producing cyder with a truly Cornish taste, the Cyder farm is reintroducing many old varieties of Cornish apples into its orchards and is constantly planting more apple trees to keep up with demand.
Perfect as refreshing drop on a hot summer’s day, Cornish Rattler has gained a steady following since its launch in draft format and is proving to be a big hit amongst drinkers in their twenties, a group which is well documented to be turning away from sugary alcoholic drinks in the quest for more natural beverages. Cider is currently the fastest growing sector in the ‘long alcoholic drinks’ market, with a 6.2% overall increase in the volume of cider consumed in 2006 on the previous year (Source: XXXXXX)
Joe Healey, 20, who is in his second year of studying Business Administration at Bath University in preparation for working for the family business full time when he graduates is delighted with the success of his first cyder: Cornish Rattler is very different from the other cyders that we produce and the big name brands sold in most pubs because we purposely set out to create a new cloudy cyder that would appeal to a new generation of cyder drinkers. The taste of apples is really distinctive which is why Cornish Rattler appeals to non-traditional cyder enthusiasts as well as those who are familiar with the diversity of different types of cyder available.
“The feedback we’ve had from St Austell Brewery and from the customers that have tried the cyder at sampling events at local bars and in our farm attraction shop has been really encouraging and we’ve been inundated with requests for Cornish Rattler in bottles. We have high expectations for the new cyder and have already doubled our production capacity since last year to meet demand which we anticipate will continue to grow.”
Cornish Rattler in 500ml bottles, RRP £1.99 is officially launched on Friday 20th April at Kingsley Village , Fraddon and will be available also at the Cornish Cyder Farm and other retailers and through St Austell Brewery pubs across the region.
